Hindi Translation
यह आरती भगवान शिव के महादेव स्वरूप की स्तुति करती है—भस्म से सजे अंग, मस्तक पर चंद्रमा, हाथ में डमरू और त्रिशूल। “हर हर महादेव” का उच्चारण सभी संकटों को टालने वाला और भगवान शिव को प्रसन्न करने वाला माना गया है।
English Translation
This aarti glorifies Lord Shiva as Mahadev — ash-smeared, crescent moon on his head, holding the damaru and trishul (trident). The chant “Har Har Mahadev” itself is believed to dissolve every obstacle and please Lord Shiva, and this aarti is sung wherever that chant resounds, from Kashi’s ghats to Shiva temples across India.
Significance
How to Chant?
Offer bel patra, water and milk to the Shivling, light a diya, and sing/chant the aarti while circling the lamp; the “Har Har Mahadev” refrain is often chanted loudly by the whole gathering.
Number of Repetitions
Once during daily Shiva puja; chanted repeatedly through Maha Shivratri and the Kanwar Yatra.
